In February 1994, the GVFD and Hood County Volunteer Rescue Unit merged into a single department, operating under the same constitution and by-laws. Previously both departments had 30 members each, but after the merger a department of 60 personnel (45 active and 15 reserve members) was established.
Active members live within one (1) mile of the city limits of Granbury, while a reserve member may live outside this boundary. The reserve position is typically held by people who spend normal business hours within the city limits and have the ability to respond during day-time hours. These positions were established in order to improve weekday response.
Our business meetings occur on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM at Station One. If you would like to volunteer or just have an interest in learning more about our department, we welcome you to join us. Also, make sure to view our "FAQ's" page as it may answer more of your questions about membership. Please also feel free to drop by either Station any time you see the door open. We welcome visitors to view the apparatus and the station anytime.
